Hidden talents from Latvia

Tall ship crew are drawn from all walks of life and to demonstrate this, meet Anna Novikova, a professional ballet dancer from Latvia, currently sailing on Spaniel (Latvia), the 17m Bermudan Sloop.  Anna (24) is sailing with 11 fellow crew members and a cuddly polar bear called Bamsis, who sits on the helm. 

Anna began her dancing career aged 10 and joined the Latvian National Ballet Company.  This is her second year sailing, having sailed on Viva (Latvia) last year, where she learnt about Spaniel.  Having competed in The Tall Ships' Races from Liverpool to Maloy earlier this summer,  Anna will remain onboard until the race end in Funchal, at which point she will continue her travels whilst studying languages and photography. 

"I prefer sailing to dancing because it allows me to travel, though I feel very lucky to have done both" said Anna.
