Crowds pour into Falmouth to see the ships, including Captain Jack Sparrow Thousands of people poured into Falmouth today to see the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta fleet. An excellent Park and Float system was in operation for people to park at Ponsharden and then take a ferry across to Queen's Wharf where the Class A vessels were berthed. After visiting the ships, many people then walked into Falmouth to visit the Class B vessels and enjoy the events and entertainment on offer. Some 13,000 people are estimated to have visited the docks area, despite some windy conditions. Amongst those having a look around the ships was Captain Jack Sparrow who was accompanied by school children from a number of schools in Falmouth to tell pirate stories. The children and Captain Jack then enjoyed tours around the ships and Cuauhtemoc (Mexico) also offered them drinks and refreshments. Captain Jack was impressed by the interior of the ship and commented that this was what he called a ship. The crews were to have taken part in some Workboat racing today but the strong wind meant this had to be cancelled. Tomorrow the crews will have a chance to race dragon boats in the harbour, as well as take part in sports events and enjoy the town of Falmouth. Tonight the ships' captains will enjoy a Captains' Dinner at the Falmouth Hotel. |
