Race update 14: Tuesday 30 Sept am

Let the festivities begin!

At 0400hrs GMT this morning the final vessel crossed the finishing line.  Astrid (Netherlands) is now heading towards the port of Funchal, where the rest of the fleet are either already alongside, or coming in this morning. Gedania (Poland) (pictured, above), the other backmarker, crossed the line at 2019 GMT yesterday. 

Now that all vessels have completed the race the provisional results are as follows (these will not be confirmed until the race declarations forms have been submitted to the race officials):

Class A on corrected time

Alexander von Humboldt (Germany) first in class and first overall

Astrid (Netherlands) second in class and second overall

Pelican of London (UK) third in class and third overall

Sedov (Russia) fourth in class and fifth overall

Combined Class B, C and D on corrected time

Tecla (Netherlands) first in class and fourth overall

Gedania (Poland) second in class and twelfth overall

Quero Quero (Portugal) third in class and thirteenth overall

Spaniel (Latvia) fourth in class and fourteenth overall

The communications vessel,  Jacinto Candido, (pictured) who has been doing a marvellous job following the fleet from Ilhavo with the Sail Training International Communications Officer on board, will be coming into port today and joining the festivities.
