Mir crosses the finish line
Mir (Russia) crossed the finishing line at 0300 hrs today and is now heading into Funchal for the shore based celebrations. The rest of the fleet are close behind and are expected to finish the race today, apart from Astrid (Netherlands) who is expected to cross the line tomorrow. Despite being at the rear of the fleet on the water, on corrected time Astrid is in fifth position both in class and overall.
At the reporting time this morning, the results in Class A on corrected time were as follows:
Alexander von Humboldt (Germany) in first place in class and overall. Pelican of London (UK) in second place and second overall. Mir in third place and third overall.
In Class B, the results are as follows, though subject to change as Quero Quero has not yet reported in.
Tecla (Netherlands) first in class and sixth overall.
Gedania (Poland) second in class and twelfth overall.
Spaniel (Latvia) third in class and thirteenth overall.
On the water, Challenger 1 (UK) has passed the waypoint Porto Santo, followed by Spaniel, Sedov (Russia) and Cuauhtemoc (Mexico) (pictured top) in that order.
The weather is N 22kts backing NW up to 22kts today with conditions recorded as fair.
Tomorrow the wind is forecast to be NNW then veering NE and reducing to 17kts.
