Backmarkers crossing the line
The fleet have all made radio contact with the communications vessel this evening and the current positions are now published on fleet tracking as well as race positions (see links below).
Challenger 1 and Challenger 4 (both UK) have both now made it over the start line and Pogoria (Poland) is not far behind.
On the water, Endeavour (UK) leads, followed by Spaniel (Latvia) and then Mir (Russia). Quero Quero (Portugal) lies fourth on the water and is sailing much further West.
In Class A on corrected time, Astrid (Netherlands) is in first place as well as first overall. Alexander von Humboldt (Germany) - pictured top - is in second place both in class and overall while Pelican of London (UK) is in third place in class and fourth overall.
In the combined B, C and D Class on corrected time, Tecla (Netherlands) - pictured below - is in first position and third overall, Gedania (Poland) is in second place and ninth overall, and local Bermudan Sloop Quero Quero (Portugal) is third place in class and thirteenth overall.
Weatherwise amongst the fleet there is a tendency towards a northerly wind at 5-10 kts. The sea state is reported as calm with ripples. Overnight it is due to be N veering to NE 3-6 kts. By tomorrow the wind should increase slightly veering further E 4-8 kts and by tomorrow evening 9-12 kts. The outlook is for the wind to continue to increase E up to 20 kts.
