Falmouth prepares for the Funchal 500
Tall Ships Races Fleet

Falmouth is gearing itself up for the arrival of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta fleet on the 10th of September. As well as being able to step on board the vessels, visitors will also be able to buy a wide range of local produce and watch an array of street performers in the entertainment village.
In Event Square, with the backdrop of the Tall Ships, visitors will be entertained with top acts that will get everyone singing and dancing. During the days in port, the crews have a chance to visit some of the beautiful Cornish coast, compete in sports events and enjoy a crew party and crew parade, while the captains will be entertained to a gala dinner at the Falmouth Hotel.
The culmination of the event will be the Parade of Sail on the 13th of September when the fleet will, depending on the wind direction, sail between St Anthony Head and Rosemullion Point before heading out to the race start area, some five miles off shore. They will then race some 600 nautical miles to Ilhavo, Portugual where they are expected to arrive by 20th September.
