Russian ships lead the race

 

Mir (Russia) has now taken over the lead overall of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta on corrected time. Behind her overall and in Class A is Sedov (Russia) with Capitan Miranda (Uruguay) in third place. In Class B on corrected time, Spaniel (Latvia) is in the lead with Endeavour (UK) in second place and Steppe (Belgium) in third.

On the water, Steppe is in the lead, with Endeavour and Spaniel close behind. Mir, Challenger 1 and Challenger 4 are a short distance behind them, with a much larger gap before the rest of the fleet which is led by Sedov.

The Race Committee are now in the process of considering bringing the race time limit forward in order to ensure the fleet arrive in Ilhavo by midday on 20 September.

The next report is due to be posted at around 2000 hrs on Wednesday.
