Race Update 6: Tuesday 16 September pm

Sedov holds onto her lead

The Russian ship Sedov (pictured top) remains in the lead overall on corrected time with Mir (Russia) lying in second place on corrected time overall and Spaniel (Latvia) in third place overall.

In Class A behind Sedov and Mir is Capitan Miranda (Uruguay). Behind Spaniel in Class B is Endeavour (UK) with Steppe (Belgium) in third.

On the water three vessels are streaking ahead of the rest of the fleet with Steppe in the lead and Endeavour and Spaniel close behind. After a gap there is another group of Challenger I (UK), Mir and Sedov.

Winds at the northern end of the Bay of Biscay are predominantly east-north-east to north-east 10 - 18 kts. In the southern end winds are north-easterly 14 to easterly 24 kts. Winds are due to increase over the next 24 hours but then decrease in the following 24 hour period.

The Race Committee are looking carefully at the progress of the fleet and particularly at the slow progress of the vessels at the back of the fleet, notably Shabab Oman (Oman), Alexander von Humboldt (Germany), Pelican (UK) and Tecla (Netherlands).

The next report is due to be posted at around 0900 hrs on Wednesday.
