Race Update 5: Tuesday 16 September

A new day, a new leader

Sadly yesterday's race leader, Juan de Langara (Spain) has been forced to retire due to electrical problems, and is heading to La Coruna for repairs.  No doubt the crew will be bitterly disappointed having worked hard to achieve such excellent postitions thus far.  No report has been received this morning, probably due to their postition.

The overall race leader is now Sedov (Russia) who is also leading in Class A and eighth on the water.

Mir (Russia) is lying second on corrected time and third overall, and Capitan Miranda (Uruguay) third in Class and seventh overall.

In Class B, Spaniel (Latvia) has re-taken the lead, and is lying second overall.  Steppe (Belgium) is second in Class and fourth overall, and Endeavour (UK) is third in Class and fifth overall.

Bringing up the rear is Tecla (Netherlands), who is yet to pass Waypoint 1, and Alexander von Humboldt (Germany) who is about to pass Waypoint 1.

At the reporting time this morning, the wind was N at 7kts amongst the fleet.  It is due to freshen and veer E throughout the day.

The next report is due to be posted at around 2000 hrs on Tuesday.
