Funchal, Madeira 2 - 5 October

Funchal, largely due to the strategic position of the island of Madeira in the North Atlantic, has been a busy port of call for passenger, cargo and fishing vessels for five centuries. Famous for its Madeira fortified wines, its mild sub-tropical climate has also enabled it to develop a thriving year-round tourist industry. By the time the Tall Ships fleet arrives, the port of Funchal close to the centre of the city will have been transformed to a leisure destination port, with cargo ships berthed at a new port down the coast.
